Is Adoption Right For Me?
If you are thinking about adopting a cat, Safe Haven for Animals suggests learning their general needs in order to find the pet that best suits your lifestyle. If you understand what you are getting into with your new family member you are more likely to have a fulfilling relationship.
Here are some questions to ask yourself
Can you live with pet hair and the occasional wear and tear caused by your cat?
Do you already live with a pet and would they adjust well to a new addition?
Will everyone in your home welcome your adoption?
How much space do you have inside your home? Is it enough?
Do you rent? If so, do you have permission to own a pet?
How much time do you have to spend with your new companion? Is it enough?
Do you have the financial resources to take care of your animal's basic and health needs?
How will you take care of your cat when you travel?
Do you have a plan in place for what to do if you happen to move somewhere that does not allow cats, if a new family member suddenly develops an allergy to them, your job status changes, or if you pass away unexpectedly? It is important to consider these potential scenarios to ensure the well-being of your feline friend.
Our Adoption Process
We have a clear and well-structured process in place to find the best possible homes for our animals in need. This process begins with a phone interview designed to collect important details and insights from potential adopters and answer any questions you may have. If that initial conversation goes well, we move forward by setting up a visit for you to meet our cats in person. One of our Adoption Coordinators will provide a tour of our facility and introduce you to our available cats. Our adoption coordinators have extensive knowledge of every cat and can help answer questions about individual personalities, habits, and special needs. Should you decide to choose a specific cat during this meeting, we then schedule a home visit to deliver your new pet, ensure it’s a safe and suitable environment, and provide a care kit for the new pet. To support a smooth transition, we also make a follow-up call about a week later to see how everything is going to ensure both the adopter and the cat are settling in well together.
We've helped place hundreds of pets with loving homes, and we'd be happy to help you determine the best options for you!
